Wait, Theres seems to be something weird with the example where white has pawns on H2 and E4 and king on c1 and black has his pawns on F6 and G7 and his king on C3. If white advances his pawn to e5, black can then move his king to f4. if white f6x then black f6x and now black is still inside the square. if after black f4 white h4 then black just eats whites pawn and remains int he square. So the video seems wrong to suggest that white would win. All black has to do is sacrifice a pawn.

Wait nm, if the pawn DOESN'T eat then the white pawn advances and queens.

I confess - my favorite part of the tutorial -

"Don't eat the D pawn you greedy bastard, you'll go outside the square"

I think that'll be my official quote - not verbatim, but I like it anyways - oh yah, nice tutorial - :)
Hi, thanks for the compliments. No, the lesson isn't from Chessmaster, it's just a bunch of positions I collected and put together, but it's nice somebody considered it to be of that quality. This was my first try at a video, so there's still some rough edges to be worked out.

Thanks to the people who make this site possible.
Congrats, great video. Cristal clear explanations. The background music isn't such a good idea however in my opinion. It distracted me from the excellent material you presented .... probably because it was such good music :) ..... so, next time please without background music.

Yes - this is a great video - even though I have known about endings for years each time I see something like this I learn something more. I liked the music and the "greedy bastard" and the Troitsky study I had all the moves but in just the wrong order!! So I have studied this twice.

I would love to see more videos like this one.

It's so good I've played it over three times at least now!! It's great how it builds from the elements to that exquisitely beautiful study!

Very well explained and instructive 'square of the pawn' lesson. I particularly like the last position, I've never seen it before and I felt extremely satisfied after solving it. (Although it did take me a while)

Great video of very high quality. I managed to solve the troitzky study in a few minutes, which made the whole lesson even more enjoyable.

Great Instructional video ! Pity about the bad language in just one instance - stops me showing it to children.
