I decided to do a training journal. It will be fun seeing how I set these goals :)

Short Term Goals: (less than 1 year)
Beat more masters in tournament games
Get a FICS standard rating of 2000
Get a FICS blitz rating of 1900
Get my CFC rating up to 2000
Finish reading Think Like A Grandmaster and Accerelated Dragons

Long Term Goals: (less than 5 years)
Become an National Master
Get an FICS standard rating of 2300
Get a FICS blitz rating of 2300
Go to the Canadian Open Chess Championships
Get on to the top lists for canada
Get a FIDE rating

I will post all my tournament games as well as the standard games on FICS I get crushed like a chump from now on.

Unfortunately I am a little late on my goal of 2000 standard rating... but it's finally here!

Congratulations. Is that your FICS rating or you CFC?

FICS... :(
I never get a chance to play enough CFC rated tournaments... I decided it would be cool to be underrated... after all with a CFC rating of under 1700 I could go into tournaments and get prize money easily :P

 Re: gooeyjim's training journal
I've recently had a "spike" in my FICS rating. All of a sudden my rating jumps up from 2040 to 2090, and I've been able to hold it there somehow. I'm amazed since I play very poorly (though I've begun to analyse variations, so usually I don't get crushed so quickly by some tactic (usually) against 2200's I still frequently lose, even against 2100's. I somehow feel like I'm overrated, I think I still lose against 2000's more than I win against them (although my score against them has DEFINATELY improved, before I rarely won against them. Still, I think I should be using this journal more often, maybe I'll be able to spike my rating above 2100! (hope I don't fall below 2000)

I will be posting significant, humiliating, or exciting games on this journal shortly! (I've had my share of humiliating defeats, especially against those 2100+ overrated jerks! XD)

 Re: gooeyjim's training journal
Two games to post today, the first one was a total joke, my opponent (rated 2083) made a unsound sacrifice on g3 which at first sight looked attractive. I, failling to find a good defense (there was one) played ridiculiously and lost

The second one was my first game that hasn't been a "joke" I won a decent game. I didn't play particularly good, but it was "ok" and I didn't lose horribly

Behold the most humiliating game of them all!

My rating fell to 2042, hope I don't fall below 2000 :(

 Re: gooeyjim's training journal
alright after having a tough time, I lost 5 games in a row :( (but as an excuse they were all quite a bit higher rated than me) Then I played a game against this jerk, who disconnected with 9 seconds left and a totally lost position. They also called me a cheater because I used crafty for analysis

Hi

Isn't 4. ...Bg7 innacurate? As after Nc3 you can't play d5 but have to play the more passive d6. I was wondering why not just 4. ...d5  which does seem like the main move in the databse

 Re: gooeyjim's training journal
yes Bg7 wasn't that accurate. The problem was I got it confused with the normal hyper accerelated dragon line, where white has played Nf3 instead of Nc3.

6 humiliating games against a GM... The GM obviously played causually hence the very poor sacrifice... but I failed.... well I guess I still have a long way to go
