 HOWTO: Record a video
We have 2 methods, using either the free Windows Media Encoder or the open-source software Camstudio.

There are some audio-sync issues with Camstudio that don't exist with Windows Media Encoder, so we recommend WME!

Recording with Windows Media Encoder

Re: HOWTO: Record a video (for Mac users)
I would just like to add that there is a free screen capture app. available for the Mac (also PC). It's called Jing and it works very well. You can find it here: http://www.jingproject.com/

Also, if you're like me and run Windows on your Mac (primarily to run Chessbase, in my case) it will also record when you are in the Windows environment.

I hope this is helpful.

Dave

Whoops -right! For longer videos on the Max perhaps iShowU is worth a spin- for $20 people seem very happy with it. https://store.shinywhitebox.com/store/shop.php

Well yes, but if you'll note the subject line of my first post in this thread you'll note that I was addressing Mac users as they had been given short shrift before now. :)

 Re: HOWTO: Record a video
Looks like WME has punked out and windows is forcing people to go with their free trial. Which is crippled on the encoding. Is there another option as goodas WME?

 Re: HOWTO: Record a video
Hello everyone,
Im new to this but I have a question:
Im trying to find a chess program (or any program) that will help me VIDEO RECORD LIVE while playing on the computer at the same time. ie: Id be talking about a position, moving the pieces while being video-taped, AND show the computer screen on tv. It would be similar to the teaching videos that Gary Kasparov used to teach.

Any help would be MOST appreciated!

Thanks guys,
Sherif

Hey DrToma,

I am not 100% sure if I know what you want (that tv part confuses me a bit) but if you want sth like this:

Image

all you need is a webcam and adjust its window (upper right corner in the example), any chess program (here I used SCID) and a screen capture program like WindowsMediaEncoder.
Adjust all the windows and capture. Running the encoder, capturing with the webcam, running an engine and do sth on the screen makes my computer beg for mercy though...when hitting the capture screen button I am sure I heard it scream "what the..you must be kidding! Get serious , dude...plzzzzz"....my computer is pretty old though...sth like 6-7 years. Nonetheless, it worked.

Not the prettiest thing in the world, but TalkAide for Skype works great and the price is tough to beat. 8)
