Hey, I got a draw against Andrew in his Sweshnikow. Can't ask for more.

Congratuations to Andrewrun and well played to both....was a really tense struggle the late stage of this game!

I also challenge Andrewrun to a 2-game match if he excepts with the same time control. Please PM me for details and dates.

Interesting opening play! Qa5+ is a very tricky sideline, though it only works after 9.Nd5 instead of 9.Bxf6 gxf6 10.Nd5 Qa5+? 11.c3 clears c2 for Na3.

I looked a bit into the opening, and wondered how White could improve.

10.Bd2 Qd8 seems forced, and then White has several options.

11.Be3, 11.Bd3, 11.Nxf6+, 11.c4 and of course 11.Bg5.

I think 11.Nxf6+ Qxf6 is the most principled line, not changing the pawn structure, which itself is favorable for White.
12.Bd3 looks like an improvement, but:

12.Bd3 Qg6 13.0-0 Be7 14.c3 d5! 15.Qe2 Bg4! 16.f3 dxe4 17.Bxe4 Bf5 and Black even has an advantage! It is of course not a forced line, but it shows the dilemma White is in.

Anyone got an idea, how or whether White can improve? I mean, this doesn't seem so bad, if you are fine with a draw after 11.Bg5, but it's still not played often.

Qa5+ is very very risky for black. Black can't really get more than a draw (well, after Bd2 Qd8 Bg5 black can transpose back to the mainline with Be7, but white has better...), but given the match situation, a draw was enough for me so I decided to take Fox completely out of normal Sveshnikov positions - a calculated gamble...

Nxf6?! is not so great, even though it does look principled. White has much better with 11.Bd3. I don't want to get into a huge theoretical discussion, but suffice it to say that with 11.Bd3 white is much better. 11.c4 is also good, and IMHO white retains a slight edge there.
