Hello biike

I am trying to put together a training plan, but I don't know how much time I should be spending on tactics problems. My icc 15 min rating is around 1400. I don't have a cts account. I only have been using chess tempo and chess.com.

1) How much training time (or how many problems) do you think I should spend on tactics servers?

2) Would you recommend cts instead of chess.com and/or chess tempo?

Thanks,

KB :D

i recommend cts because it has a very clean cut format and keeps record of all of your statistics.if you do 50+ problems a day after about 2 months youll start to see major improvement in your game never let your rating on cts affect you if you want to improve you have to do your problems (whatever amount you decided upon but i do recomend 100 a day which takes 45 minutes to an hour)everyday.it will improve your chess through pattern recognition .you see by doing enough problems everyday for an extended period of time the tactical shots that you view on the sight become long term memory instead of short term memory which is why its important to do problems everyday.

I have always understood the value of tactics training, but I think I have failed to discipline myself to do them on a regular basis. Maybe I will set an overall goal of doing "x" amount per week (say 300), and then try to pace myself through the week. I think I want to set up my training program on a weekly bases. Thanks for your imput!

Play Well!

thats fine as long as you pace yourself and dont do the majority of the work on 1 day. also you should try not to get the highest accuracy or the highest rating but to reach a middle ground of accuracy and rating.

the naxt tournament is in early october. ive been studying the ruy lopez for white im playing e4 e5 nf3 nc6 bb5 a6 ba4 nf6 and d3 instead of the usual 0-0. thats just the main line im also learning what to do against lines where black plays bishop c5 and knight d4 rite away not to mention the schliemann the norwegian and the baltic defence.i need more experience playing the positions instead of just studying them though. im also planning on studying my najdorf more and the slav.pretty much all i have to play is 1 system for white 1 e4 is of course best by test.against the caro kann i play the panov botvinnik. against the scandanavian i play the main line.against the c5 nc6 sicillian i play the rossolimo. against the pirc i play the main line. against the french i play the exchange french against alekhines defence i play the four pawns attack.anything else is pretty much gonna be some weird opening in which i will just play naturally against. as black im going to play the najdorf sicillian against e4 and the slav against d4 against c4 i play the symettrical english.against nf3 we usually transpose into an english or a qeens pawn game. ive been thinking about playing the nimzo indian instead of the slav. im studying books and im on cts everyday so i hope i know what the hell im doing.

so the chess tournament went well in newyork yesterday i scored 4 out of 6.i also met lev alburt and got his autograph on a book he wrote (chess strategy for the tournament player).it rained for a little while (by a little while i mean for an hour) but real chess players play through the rain dammit.the food is much more expensive in newyork but oh well.i also saw alex lenderman and yury (lupshun)? play speed chess before the tournament started.

the chess team at my highschool is getting letterman jackets for the chess team as they do for all of our sports teams.were getting them next year but at least now i feel more justified considering our football team sucks and our chess team won the state championship last year.
