Welcome to the second installment of our new "Best of..." feature. Don't have time to keep up with the constant stream of great content on the site? No worries, just look for this post each week. As usual, we have a place to
submit suggestions for next week's roundup.
The video forums have been especially busy, with Dennis' newest lesson,
Knocking Out the Matrix, taking the coveted top spot in our
Hall of Fame category for most viewings in 24 hours. Nice work, Dennis! We've also had a flurry of
live commentaries from curtains, one of our all-star producers.
We've had some great opening videos in the past week. Katar recorded an introduction to
1.e4 e5 and the Scotch game as black, which spawned a lot of great discussion. Similarly, Frenchie501 recorded a well-received introduction to the
London System, an opening I've used with a fair amount of success. Let Frenchie know what you think! Sfarmer29 recorded a video covering the
5...g6 line of the Goring gambit. His effort even inspired JWhis to post a
Goring Gambit miniature in the Game Replays forum.
We've also had some great discussion forums threads. We started a new
group game (with forum members collaborating on different sides) in which anybody can either make a new move or replace the current move on the board. The white team (on which I am playing) looks to be on the ropes, but we're poised for a comeback. Also in the General Chess Discussion forum, gooeyjim's request for advice on
playing against stronger players sparked a lively debate.
Finally in the Training Journals forum, Kamus started his own
journal, which has included pearls of chess wisdom and fascinating biographical information ;)
Hope you enjoyed this week's roundup,
let me know what you think!
