Best of the Week #5

It's time to kick back, crack a canned beverage, and enjoy the ChessVideos.TV Best of the Week thread!

Perhaps the best discussion was in "A Novice Asks Difficult Questions". Many members chimed in with thoughtful comments on chess improvement and learning. Perhaps my favorite post came from FM Zibbit, who provided excellent advice for beginning players, explaining that "you are thinking too much, it's like as if you just learned basketball, you should be learning to dribble and shoot lay-ups, instead you are thinking about crossover dribbles and 360 dunks. Learn to dribble and shoot and later you will understand the other things better!"

The training journals forum is thriving, with a new journal from jackt and great updates from Kamus and Hitchhiker. jackt is a strong player who has been posting extensive comments on his training regimen, goals, and progress. Let him know what you think! Meanwhile, Kamus posted a bizarre game featuring the Mousetrap Gambit. Hitchhiker provided a tournament recap and very extensive analysis of a 1.e4 e5 game he recently played.

The video forums have been bustling. Dennis Monokroussos continued his popular series analyzing member games (if you want Dennis' thoughts on one of your efforts, check the thread in Training Videos From the Masters). In Master Hangout, curtains has decided to start providing a soundtrack for his live commentaries, much to the joy of his fans!

sfarmer29 has provided a bunch of great videos, including coverage of recent USCL games. Check out his coverage of Nakamura-Ramirez. You can also see his special Halloween treat on the Goring Gambit.

In a similar vein, kamus provided analysis of Keene-Miles, 1982 alongside audio commentary from Miles himself. Fascinating!

We also had an entertaining opening video from gentlewhisper. Our resident tournament director puts a lot of effort into these videos, so let him know what you think about his discussion of the exchange Grunfeld.

While we haven't had to much action in the Endgame Lessons forum, I'd like to highlight a slightly older video by JWhis. His analysis of a Rook + Pawn vs. Bishop is instructive and the beginning of what I hope is increased posting in the endgames forum. Hats off to you, JWhis!

Finally, I'd like to give some love to a series of live commentaries from Fuzion. Late Night Blitz #6 generated a thoughtful post from sfarmer29.
